My Jeep:: 2008 JK

Post by Dusty on Aug 1, 2015 13:45:16 GMT -8
I have finally found time to sit down and put together a little introduction. My name is Dusty, and I am so new I haven't even had a chance to go out on trail with you guys. I have followed the group on FB for a while, and for the last four months I have had to wait while I have been working overseas in the Mariana Islands. I am a wildlife biologist for an environmental consulting firm out of their San Diego office. I am the lead Pacific Islands biologist for the company. My off-road interests are more along the lines of expeditions and I have tried to set up my 2008 JK to get me as far away from people as possible, then I put on a backpack and go further (not forgetting the fly rod). I am not, and have never been a gear nut, but my desire to go remote in my jeep has made me realize that I need to know more about what my Jeep can do, and how to rescue and fix it when I do eventually break it. I am hoping to find people willing to share knowledge in the group, and I am sure the opportunities to test what my Jeep can handle will come. Aside from my Jeep, my other interests include bats, falconry, backpacking, fly fishing, orchids, and horse racing.
I drive a 2008 JK, 35 inch Pro Comp AT tires, 4" Pro Comp lift, Rock Hard front and rear bumpers, Warn 8000 winch, Wilderness Expedition Rack, and Teraflex rock rails. I have been working on upgrading the insides to support the lift and tires, so I added a Teraflex heavy duty front axel housing, and I'm looking to upgrade the drive train and maybe add a locker later this year ( I will be seeking advice on this)
I will usually be accompanied by my girlfriend Susan Stutz, and she will be accompanied by her German short hair, Hanna. She brought my Jeep down to the Meet and Greet recently while I was overseas so maybe some of you have met her. We are going to Moab with you all, so I am looking forward to meeting you and being a part of the group.

Hello San Diego Jeep Club, My Name is Wes and I live in Perris, CA. I have ridden motocross for years (OTHG) and have had some major injuries and look to focus on some new hobbies that are less brutal on the body. I am JEEP Rookie and look forward to learning more about my Jeep and wheeling and just the community of Jeeping. I just purchased a 2015 Wrangler Unlimited. Recently I have made some additions to my rig and with that I have learned a great deal about my Rig. Look forward to meeting you and gettin' out there!

Hey all.
My name is Andrew, and I'm complete nubee with Jeeps :-) I moved to US from Ukraine around 2 years ago. In Ukraine off-roading was one of my hobbies, so I decided to continue do it here. All my previous off-road trucks were old soviet military vehicles, and here I bought a 2015 Jeep Wrangler. Unfortunately my knowledge about Jeeps and off-road in San Diego climate now equal to zero, so I would be glad to join any ride to get at least minimal understanding of hot-climate off-road specific and ask my million of question about Jeep)

Hello everyone. Name is Josh. Been wheeling since I was a kid and been a Jeep Cherokee nut since I got my first one back in 2001. It was a 94 model 2WD but still took me everywhere I needed to go. It was passed down to me as the family wagon. While I was still in High School my senior year (late 2002) I picked up a used 2000 Jeep Cherokee to replace my crashed 94 model. This one had Four wheel drive. Joined the Marine Corps in 2003 and While in boot camp I had my mom mail me sections of the Factory service manual because I was going though withdrawls not being able to drive, I was also cutting out sale ads in the newspapers we were allowed to read to hold onto the Jeep Cherokee ads haha. That Jeep stayed with me until 2009 when I got orders to Fort Worth Texas (not far from where I grew up). I kind of fell out of Jeeping as there isnt' a lot of options in North Central Texas when it comes to public lands and four wheeling. I gave the 00 to my parents to trade in with their own vehicle on a new car for them. Fast Forward to 2014 last year and I had been stationed in California for about a year at that point. Was feeling the Jeep bug again. Did some Craigslist surfing and found a 2000 dollar 97 model Cherokee Sport 4X4 all stock all road miles not a spec of dirt anywhere on the chassis. I dropped the money and picked her up and brought her home and proceeded to mildly modify it for my purposes. I've never been one for high end full out builds. I don't want to go smash it into rocks just because. Usually when I wheel it's to get to a destination and enjoy the trip along the way. So none of my Jeeps or other 4x4s have ever been heavily modified with huge tires and what not. Small lifts decent sized tires and suspension flex and maybe a locker are my focus. I don't care what it looks like as long as it gets the job done. My 2000 model in Uwharrie National Forrest "back in the day". Had a poor mans lift of F-150 coil springs in the front and a "bastard" leaf spring pack using some S-10 leaf springs and my XJ's stock main spring. Had a LockRIght up front and the rear was "Lincoln Locked" for about a year before I went back to an open rear diff. Sawzalled the fenderwells to fit a slightly larger tire, homemade swaybar disconnects, home made rock rails and had a host of other small mods mainly centered around living/camping out of it when on the trails. Also had removable front doors. I loved that part haha And here's my 97. No longer have the roof basket and overhead lights on it. LockRight in the front, open in the rear, homemade swaybar disconnects. An "upcountry" suspension package pieced together using OEM and CROWN parts based on the Upcountry spring part numbers. Got me between 1 and 2 inches of lift. Nothing spectacular but the stock springs from97 were worn slap out. Nate's 4x4 Rock Rails, trans skid, ect. In the process of painting it OD green. Not going to spend half of what the Jeep cost me to have it fully repainted. Not worth it. Hope to see ya'll around some more. It's sometimes hard to get out to the further events due to work and a host of other issues but I try to make the local ones usually.

Also I am in need of a local off road shop for some aftermarket goodies. Any help is appreciated.... I myself am also somewhat new to jeeping, however I do know of a couple places to offroad in a jeep, Corral canyon is very good it is located down in Campo, it has trails for beginners and experts. and Ocotillo Wells is also great, they hold the Tierra Del Sol desert safari there every year you just missed it, it was this past weekend, I myself was there however I was working the event so I couldn't go out and have fun. I live right on the other side of the 15 from you, I live in Carmel mountain, right off Carmel Mountain road. And as far as offroad shops go, there is an offroad warehouse in Kearny Mesa, and a 4 wheel parts in San Marcos right off the 78 on Nordahl, that is all I can think of off the top of my head.

Hey everyone I am new, my name is Benson I inherited a 2000 TJ from my grandfather 3 years ago and am just now really starting to get into jeeping, as far as upgrades go, I have 33" tires with a 3" lift and 2 mastercraft Baja RS' and a mastercraft bench seat, I also have a winch and a Cobra 75 WX ST CB radio. I live near Poway, I know a little about jeeps due to doing off and on sales work with mastercraft but I am for the most part very new to it and wanted to find a group of people to go out jeeping with.
