I'm looking to upgrade the comms in the Jeep. I had Cobra back in the day and they worked great, however with all the new models out on the market today, which have the best features for the price? Looking for some first hand experiences on models and use. Thanks!

Looking for some first hand experiences on models and use. Thanks! I'm interested on getting one too. There are so many reviews on youtube but there are mostly about installation. I would like to hear what actually works better on the rides. Is it worth getting one installed or a good handheld one serves the purpose? Thanks RockTrooper for asking this question. I will wait to see the answers before buying anything.

I have a handheld Midland CB now, works OK as I can connect it up to the external antenna and power source (batteries when mobile), however I need a hardwired setup for the rig and I like some of the newer features. I was looking at the Cobra 29 LX MAX and then I checked out this video on it: . Some of the Uniden models are nice and they are pricey. I'll keep doing some research and let you know what I decide to go with.

IMO a CB for Jeepers with features are kinda worthless. Any way you look at it your limited to 4 watts of power. Best thing to do for a CB is get a good antenna and ground it properly and be sure it's at least 1/3-1/2 above your roof line. For the money you can't go wrong with a Uniden 510 or 520xl

I've been rolling with the handheld for a while now and it works, just think its time for an upgrade and some of the new features will come in handy when highway driving to the trails. Plus I like new tech...Seems like just about every model I have researched has some negative items about it.

I have the Cobra 75. Everything I need is in the handheld PTT/speaker. There is a little box I have mounted under the glove box. Works great for the trail and road trips. Has NOAA weather channels which really come in handy when taking a long trip. I also have a 4 ft antenna I have mounted to my tire carrier that sticks out about 12 inches above the hardtop. Seem to get decent distance.

Does the box that you mounted under the glove box have a speaker on it or will it allow you to add a speaker to it?

I still have not decided on what model to get. Now that Father's Day has passed, they have reduced some of the prices on those that I was looking at. Plus Chappy ruined me on going all high tech with common sense. The smaller unit Uniden would fit nicely mounted in the center console or under the steering wheel.

I have the cobra 75 and it does the job. Its compact design is nice and saves space. I have found that an external speaker with this unit is almost a requirement as the speaker in the hand held unit is not that good in a noisy jeep

It doesn't have a speaker on the box and I haven't checked if you can add one.
