Hi all, I really need to mount a HAM radio in my rig, and let Mark use the hand held when needed. I am looking at best practice set up, etc. I know I have spoken to many at the club events, but ready to pull the trigger and get this done now that I have my technician license. N2RLY. I know much of this is asking opinion, but you haven't steered me wrong with other suggestions ;-) - I am seeking a dual band with detachable face plate and trying to determine how to mount the face place around the rear view mirror, I made this difficult as my SPOD is located there as well. Is there a suggested mount or something that I need to fab up?
- I am thinking the radio itself can be located behind the glove box, but that is next to the CB. Would that cause interference? I don't typically use both at same time.
- Antenna - ready to mount at hood for best reception. I am concerned with range mainly for baja travel. What is the best antenna to get, one that I can pull off frequently anmd store inside the jeep when not used.
- Antenna connector and mount - what is the best mount to use to reduce vibration, etc.
- Connection - should this be connected direct to battery, any schematics on proper wiring if I want to install myself? Should I use copper/gold grounding connections between antenna and frame/battery, are they worth it?
Thanks for any input, hope to see some of you at the upcoming Show & Shine!

Most of us are running a Yeasu FT-7900R. As for mounting i have mine up by the rear view mirror but i don't have an Spod. Joe has a similar set with a switch box and radio up by the rear view mirror.
